Description of role: *PLEASE NOTE - Volunteering is not avaliable every day of the week - opportunities and time commitments will vary throughout the year. I have selected every week day because time commitments are yet to be confirmed.
Volunteering within the ranger team, but also working with staff from the community and children and young people teams. Engagement Assistant volunteers support with the delivery of engagement projects and events aimed at people ages 18-25 at Dunham Massey and further afield.

• Help people connect with the natural environment of their local area.
• Share your knowledge and learn about other cultures.
• Help young people gain confidence and new skills.
• Improve green spaces across Greater Manchester.
You’d also be joining Europe’s largest conservation charity and the wider National Trust team proudly looking after 780 miles of coastline, over 250,000 hectares of land, over 500 historic houses, castles, ancient monuments, gardens, parks and nature reserves (including lighthouses, villages, pubs and a gold mine!). We are a unique charity welcoming millions of people each year and with a vision to open up places for the benefit of everyone, for ever.
What’s involved?
• Working closely with experienced staff to plan and deliver engagement events such as guided walks, conservation drop-in sessions, youth ranger tasks and green space improvements.
• Direct interaction with young people and community groups consisting of people of a wide range of nationalities and ethnicities.
• Working on projects with partner organisations and charities.
• Contributing to conservation projects whilst also passing on knowledge and practical skills to new audiences.
• Working with people with additional needs.
• Helping staff to monitor group welfare.
• Helping staff to prepare for engagement activities and tidy up after a session.
We want all our volunteers to feel welcome and to have an equally positive experience when volunteering with us. So, volunteers will:
• Be provided with the necessary induction, training, equipment and reasonable adjustments to do this role well and safely.
• Be offered expenses to cover agreed travel costs between home and place of volunteering.
• Have remote access to support, news and rotas via our volunteer website

• Happy with a flexible volunteering commitment without guaranteed regular shifts.
• Passionate about inspiring the next generation and connecting with new audiences.
• Comfortable interacting with people of different ages, nationalities and ethnicities.
• Comfortable interacting with people for whom English is not their first language.
• Open to working with people with additional needs.
• Happy working outdoors in different weather conditions.
• Happy to undertake a DBS check (funded by the National Trust).
• Happy to travel to various locations across Greater Manchester.
• Happy to undertake mandatory engagement training for the role.
• Comfortable working under the direction of National Trust engagement staff.
All National Trust volunteers will be asked to
• Respect and uphold the National Trust values whilst volunteering with us
• Complete training required of all NT volunteers and any role specific training
• Adhere to relevant policies and processes including safeguarding, health and safety, and equality and diversity
Additional information
• There are 2 positions available for this role.
• Prior experience in engagement/youth leadership/events delivery is not essential for this role. We are looking for people with enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.
• Basic English language skills are necessary, but applicants are not required to be fluent English speakers.
• Selection for this role will consist of an informal phone call/zoom meeting, followed by an in-person informal interview.
