Organisation Details
Cracking Good Food
Activity type: Catering, Community Work, Counselling and Listening, Education, Health and Wellbeing, Older People
Stellify Award: This opportunity is part of 'Make a Difference'
Description of role: We teach people how to cook – in the Community, at our weekend Cookery Schools and various 'pop up' cooking demos; within these sessions we are always looking for a spare pair of hands. There are also opportunities to help out at our forages.
Join us! Below are just a few reasons why more than 160+ people volunteer with us from across Greater Manchester and many on a regular basis! Do they also strike a chord with you?
# Are you interested in meeting and helping new people? ✓
# Want to learn new recipes & cooking skills? ✓
# Gain nutritional knowledge? ✓
# Want to strengthen employment opportunities? ✓
# Want to do something useful with your time? ✓
# Interested in sustainability and ethical issues around food supply and production? ✓
# Improve team work, leadership & creativity skills ✓
# Practice thinking on your feet to motivate and engage participants using food as a 'connection' tool ✓
# Giving something back ✓
Each session is similar BUT different - Below is a rough list of what you ‘may’ be asked to help with:
• Set up the area (erect gazebo, set up tables, help unload kit from cars)
• Display Banners & promotional material.
• Plan & organise the session.
• Welcome, introduction & any housekeeping.
• Encourage participation.
• Prep OR supervise preparation of ingredients.
• Cook OR supervise cooking.
• Engage & oversee participants.
• Aid communication of CGF’s educational messages (nutrition, sustainability, bilk cooking & any top tips).
• Gaining bespoke feedback.
• Wash up.
• Tidy up and put away.
• Dismantle area & re load cars.
