STITCHED UP COMMUNITY BENEFIT SOCIETY LIMITED

Activity type: Event Support, Retail
Stellify Award: This opportunity is part of 'Make a Difference'
Organisation Description: Stitched Up is a not-for-profit Community Benefit Society inspiring communities across Greater Manchester to take action on sustainable fashion.

We are currently based in Bridge 5 Mill where we run sewing workshops, mending socials as well as volunteer and textile reuse programmes. We work with local community to teach people about the environmental impact of the fashion industry and how to care for, mend and up-cycle their clothes. We also campaign for the rights of garment makers and for fast fashion companies to take accountability for their dangerous and damaging practices. Our aim is to lower the barrier of entry for these skills, by improving access; creating opportunities for people to take action on sustainable fashion in their own lives.

We’re always looking for passionate and enthusiastic volunteers to join our team. We run relaxed regular volunteer sessions once a week at Bridge 5 Mill as well as variety of other busier events such as Yard Sales, Clothes Swaps and Repair Cafes. We always have a lot going on to get involved with so there should be something to suit everyone.

You don’t have to be able to sew to volunteer with us, but it does help if you share our passion for sustainable fashion!
Description of role: Come along and help out at our Yard Sale! Part of our efforts to reduce textile waste in Manchester is to take in fabric and haberdashery donations (such as remnants from sewing projects, curtains etc..) from members of the public and companies. We then offer these to the local community at a very affordable price during our Yard Sales.

We'll be selling our reclaimed fabric at £1p/m as well as loads of bargains on patterns, remnants and our haberdashery. This is also a great chance to get your hands on some affordable and great sustainable fabrics yourself as volunteers get an extra 10% off!

We are looking for volunteers to help out with the Yard Sales, putting out fabrics, cutting lengths of fabric and keeping the space neat and tidy. We have two shifts for this event and you can sign up for either (or both!).

Early Shift 11:00am - 1:30pm // We'll be setting up and starting the event - you'll help us get the space ready then help us sell, measure fabric, help customers and keep the stock tidy.

Late Shift 1:00pm - 3:00pm // You'll help us sell, measure fabric, help customers and keep the stock tidy before helping us pack up and tidy the space after the event is over.

The Yard Sales are held at Bridge 5 Mill 22A Beswick St, Manchester M4 7HR

We can offer cash reimbursement of travel costs up to £5 on the day - just show your travel receipt to a member of staff.

Please note that I'll get in touch with you when you've signed up with more information and to let you know when our next Yard Sale is. Signing up through the portal does not mean you've been automatically confirmed for this position - thanks!
