Organisation Description: Didsbury Park Volunteers was formed as part of the Friends of Didsbury Park in November 2014. It consists of a group of very friendly volunteers from the local community and welcomes new volunteers whenever they are available. The volunteers meet every Monday morning at 0930, no matter what the weather, and work until lunchtime around 13:00. There are a large variety of jobs undertaken related to the maintenance of the park. These range from painting and decorating the old Victorian shelter to weeding and leaf clearance. The volunteers have so far completed over 7,000 hours of voluntary work and would welcome any time you could spare on any Monday morning throughout the year. We are confident everybody should be able to help in some way, so please come along. You will be made very welcome and we are sure you will enjoy it!!
Joining us is easy. Simply turn up in Didsbury Park any Monday morning from 09:30 onwards when we will be delighted to see you! Alternatively if you prefer you can contact us first using any of the following:

Description of role: This role covers a variety of opportunities for you to gain experience. These opportunities are all associated with the improvement and maintenance of Didsbury Park. Alongside our regular group of volunteers, the opportunities in Didsbury Park range from painting and decorating an old Victorian shelter or park benches to weeding and planting bulbs and plants in new flower beds. Sometimes we install new initiatives in the park like art sculptures, football/cricket pitches and fruit trees. There are different roles each week depending upon the season and what we have been donated, but rest assured there are no gardening skills needed and we will make you feel very welcome.

We meet every Monday morning in the park from 9.30am and volunteer til approx. 1pm with a refreshment break around 11am (but you can stay for as long or as little time as you like). If you are travelling by bus, you can use the Wilmslow Road entrance to the park - walk up the path and in the centre of the park you'll see the Victorian brick shelter which is the base for volunteers. We are also very close to the Didsbury Village tram stop. The volunteers will be wearing high-vis jackets so you can't miss them. You can turn up at any time so don't worry if you are late - just ask someone in high-vis for 'Brian' who is the organiser on the day and who will get you set up.

The work is usually outside in the fresh air so it is advisable to wear suitable weather clothing and sturdy shoes/boots. But don't worry, Hi-Viz jackets, gloves and all tools will be provided on the day and we can store bikes and belongings securely in our volunteer shelter. We will treat you to a free tea or coffee at approx. 11am on your first day with us at our wonderful café in the park as our small way of saying 'thank you'. One of our regular volunteers will often bring us homemade baked goods to enjoy with our drinks so hopefully you will volunteer with us on one of those mornings if you're lucky!
