Organisation Description: We provide practical and emotional support to people with life limiting illness and their families.
Description of role: Being There is a registered charity that provide support to people with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses, their carers and families. Our support includes befriending, respite sitting, hospital transport, social activities and practical help such as shopping. We also offer counselling services for our clients.
We are looking for friendly people who are good at listening and enjoy driving. You will need to help assist some of our clients in and out of the car and need to be empathetic with individuals who have life-limiting illnesses (such as cancer, stroke, heart conditions, or respiratory conditions). You will be taking clients to and from their hospital / medical appointments and to our regular social group (if available).
Arranging transport can be an additional worry for our clients. You will ease the burden on their health and wellbeing by getting them to and from their appointments.
Full training on active listening and communication skills will be given prior to any transport support. We will pay for you to have a DBS and you will receive expenses for your travel.
Branch managers will be available for ongoing support and will let you know about transport requests which come in to check your availability. We are looking for individuals who can spare a minimum of one hour a week or fortnight but we are flexible and can usually work around your commitments.
Drivers must have access to their own vehicle.
