Organisation Description: Our water management and engineering teams keep our navigations open and accessible to millions of people each day.
Each year we spend tens of millions of pounds repairing canals breaches and responding to emergencies, undoing damage caused by collisions, patching leaks and fixing routine wear and tear. This includes hundreds of large-scale works, from replacing lock gates and repairing brickwork, to installing electrics and hydraulics at the mechanised points along our network. Our specialist workshops also handcraft hundreds of lock gates every year.

Description of role: We are looking for Students that are interested in gaining some ecological and environmental science practical experience.
You will be working with our specialist teams and undertaking tasks that will support their ongoing projects. Field work might take place across Greater Manchester or be desk based.
Waterside Specialists contribute to the sustainability of waterways by offering advanced skills through their volunteer work.
Volunteering with the Trust is diverse, embracing individuals with specialist skills across various domains, from hands-on to surveying, both indoors and outdoors. These skills might involve collaborating with the Trust's current specialists or introducing new expertise not yet present in our team. Typical activities in this role include:
Specialist environmental surveys and assessments; Specialist sampling work on site; Environmental Appraisals for projects; Planning Consultations; Working with internal & external stakeholders; utilising MyMap GIS
