Organisation Description: The biggest and best park in the North West! Heaton Park is located four miles north of the city centre and is one of the largest municipal parks in Europe. The park covers 247 hectares of parkland and is ringed by the former mill towns of Oldham, Rochdale and Bury.
The park is a Grade II listed park on English Heritage's Register of Historic Parks and Gardens, Heaton Park contains 8 listed structures including the splendid Grade I listed Heaton Hall, and has been a Green Flag Award winning park since 2005!
Its spectacular, gently rolling scenery provides an attractive setting for leisure activities for visitors of all ages. It is also a memorable setting for many outdoor events, like summer fun days and family workshops, funfairs, concerts and other major events. There's an 18-hole and an 18-hole pitch and putt on site. There are four on-site cafes, located at The Farm Centre, the Lakeside, in the Golf Centre and the Garden Centre. All serving hot and cold food and drinks.
Manchester City Council manages the park in partnership with commercial organisations and community groups and together they make a visit to Heaton Park a great day out for the whole family.

Help us bring our Big Egg Hunt fun to life! We're looking for friendly volunteers to support our Egg Hunt trail, welcoming visitors to the event, supporting ticket collections, stewarding the trail route and even helping out our very important guest... the Easter Bunny!
Heaton Park Event Volunteers
Join our Visitor Experience Team as we run a family friendly Big Egg Hunt this Easter Weekend. We’ll be welcoming children and families to explore out Egg Trail where they’ll search for clues to complete the trail before heading to the Heaton Park Historical Temple where they will collect their own chocolate egg.
Event Dates:
- Friday 3 April
-Saturday 4 April
-Sunday 5 April
- Monday 6 April
Schedule:
- Arrive 9:30am for briefing + set‑up
- 10am–3pm Big Egg Hunt event
Up to 8 volunteers per day; choose one day or several!
No special skills needed; just enthusiasm, a warm welcome for families and procative approach to helping people. This volunteering takes place Outdoors.
Your role:
- Provide a warm welcome to children and families, helping them navigate the trail and find their way on arrival.
- Assist with the ticketing process at the booking desk, including checking tickets and sharing key event information such as the starting point and route.
- Hand out trail maps and other event resources to visitors.
- Help manage the collection of Eggs and support the Egg Hunt performer (Easter Bunny) at the Temple at the end of the trail.
- Steward the trail to ensure participants feel supported and informed throughout their visit.
- Engage with visitors, offering information about the park and its facilities.
- Provide general assistance to the Visitor Experience Team as required.
- Create a friendly, welcoming atmosphere for all visitors.

Arriving by Car
Enter the park via the St Margaret’s Road entrance off Bury Old Road (postcode M25 2GT). Follow the road as far as possible into the park and park in the northern car park, located near the children’s play area. Please note: The car park is Pay & Display. £3.50 for all‑day parking.
From the car park, walk down the slope towards the Stables Café buildings. The Farm Centre will be on your right.
Arriving by Public Transport
By Tram
Take the Bury Line from Manchester City Centre to Heaton Park tram stop.
There us a park entrance directly opposite the station, cross the road and enter the park from this park gate. Walking directions from the Station Gate (10–15 minutes):
- Walk straight ahead, ignoring paths to the left and right.
- At the bottom of the hill, turn left at the T‑junction onto Grand Lodge Drive.
- Walk up the hill; you will eventually see:
- Heaton Hall to your right
- The Farm Centre and Stable Cafe/ Courtyard buildings and clock tower to your left
By Bus
Heaton Park is served by the following bus routes: x35, 59, 90, 135, 149, 156, 164, and 484.For the latest route information, visit the Transport for Greater Manchester (TFGM) website and use the Route Explorer to plan your journey. The nearest park gate will depend on which bus you are travelling on, we advise using Google Maps or What Three Words to direct you to the meeting point.
