Sub theme: Disability, Education, Youth Work and Young People
Stellify Award: This opportunity is part of 'Make a Difference'
Organisation Description: We are an inclusive, member-led charity for individuals with Down’s syndrome, parents, caregivers, and professionals, from diagnosis through to adulthood
Description of role: Down's Syndrome Manchester is a member led charity helping children and adults with Down's Syndrome to thrive.

We run two separate fortnightly educational sessions for our teens/young adults.

On a Tuesday evening 18:30 - 20:00 we run a group called Speak Up User Group. This is a supported discussion forum group for our members to speak about important topics for them.

On a Wednesday Evening 18:30 - 20:30 we run a group called Learn and Thrive - Learning for Life.
Learning for Life provides critical teaching on key areas of social and emotional development. The project covers personal health, emotions, relationships, and appropriate behaviour.

These groups do not take place on the same week and we don't expect our volunteers to commit to every session if that is not possible but we really need to increase our pool of regular volunteers that cover these sessions.

Both of these sessions are facilitated by a qualified Speech and Language Therapist.

The volunteer role is to support members where needed in completing worksheets, small group discussions etc.

All volunteers will be subject to an informal interview, enhanced DBS check and safeguarding training.
