Description of role: We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated people with an interest in conservation, who want to develop skills in practical conservation, volunteer leadership and supporting individuals access nature based wellbeing activities.
Volunteer Officers are key members of the TCV Manchester team, working alongside other volunteers and TCV staff. This role will involve both outdoor practical work and office based work, supporting TCV staff on a variety of projects with different tasks including:
- Planning activities/ sessions and preparing tools & equipment
- Supporting and leading groups of volunteers in practical activities
- Assisting volunteers with a variety of physical and mental support needs during activities
- Driving volunteers in TCV vehicles (if applicable)
This is an entry level voluntary position, and no previous experience or knowledge is required, though some experience working outdoors may be beneficial.
This is a voluntary training role, designed to support people to develop the skills needed for a career in conservation and the environmental sector, as well as gaining skills and experience supporting people in nature based wellbeing interventions.
Within this, the role can be tailored to individual interests and goals, while offering real responsibility in a supportive environment. As confidence and experience grows, Volunteers Officers will be supported to run activities and lead groups independently.
There is lots of opportunity to work on a variety of projects allowing for the development of a diverse range of skills and knowledge in practical conservation, nature based wellbeing activities and volunteer support and leadership through hands on participation.
Volunteer Officers will be formally trained in first aid at work, leadership, safeguarding adults and children, risk assessments and have access to a variety of online TCV courses.
TCV Manchester is a friendly team offering a fun, interesting and fulfilling environment for development. TCV staff will provide 1 to 1 support, guidance and regular feedback, with useful job opportunity information, interview guidance and references going forward.
Travel expenses, PPE and branded clothing will be provided.
How much time:
Ideally minimum 2 days per week, including a Monday, with the position being held for at least 6 months. However this can be flexible so please get in touch to discuss this.
