Organisation Description: EMERGE 3Rs is a registered charity with a trading arm social enterprise EMERGE Recycling. Our core values are to promote the idea and practice of the real ‘3Rs’ of waste reduction, reuse and recycling and the wider concepts of community inclusion and improving local social, economic and environmental conditions.

We run FareShare Greater Manchester in partnership with the national charity; as a sub-regional hub, we receive surplus in-date food from the food industry and redistribute it to charities on the front line of alleviating poverty in Greater Manchester.
In Our ‘Touch Wood’ workshop we use reclaimed timber to make garden furniture and other household bespoke items.
Description of role: We have opportunities within our FareShare Plus surplus food redistribution warehouse team to assist the frontline charities, food banks and community initiatives that we support in filling their food orders.

This role is vital to the work of FareShare; ensuring that the food delivered to our warehouse is correctly sorted, labelled and organised into the orders placed by our charities and community groups.
The role is perfect for someone who is looking for a practical activity that includes interacting with members of the public; someone looking to gain employment experience in the food industry, warehousing and customer service, or someone just wanting to help others and tackle food waste.

WHAT WILL I BE DOING?

Assisting the charities and community initiatives we support with picking and packing their food order collections.
Ensuring food quality and safety by checking ‘use by’ and ‘best before’ dates.
Sorting and unpacking deliveries, categorising and recording food quantities.
Maintaining high standards of health and safety and food hygiene on our base.
Helping with other tasks identified by warehouse staff.
