Organisation Description: We provide practical and emotional support to people with life limiting illness and their families.
Description of role: Being There are a registered charity that provide support to people with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses, their carers and their families. Our support includes befriending, respite sitting, hospital transport, social activities and practical help such as shopping. We also offer counselling services for our clients.
We are looking for friendly people who are good at listening and can be empathetic with individuals with life-limiting illnesses (such as cancer, stroke, heart conditions, or respiratory conditions). You will be talking to and encouraging our clients to talk to one another at our Being There social group as well as helping to make tea/coffee for our clients and will make a big difference to their wellbeing by engaging with them and 'being there' for them to talk to.
Full training on active listening and communication skills will be given before any social group support. We will pay for you to have a DBS and you will receive expenses for your travel.
Branch managers will be available for ongoing support and will attend the social group too. We are looking for individuals who can spare two hours a fortnight for the social group.
No experience necessary.
