Organisation Description: Stitched Up is a not-for-profit Community Benefit Society inspiring communities across Greater Manchester to take action on sustainable fashion.

We are currently based in Bridge 5 Mill where we run sewing workshops, mending socials as well as volunteer and textile reuse programmes. We work with local community to teach people about the environmental impact of the fashion industry and how to care for, mend and up-cycle their clothes. We also campaign for the rights of garment makers and for fast fashion companies to take accountability for their dangerous and damaging practices. Our aim is to lower the barrier of entry for these skills, by improving access; creating opportunities for people to take action on sustainable fashion in their own lives.

We’re always looking for passionate and enthusiastic volunteers to join our team. We run relaxed regular volunteer sessions once a week at Bridge 5 Mill as well as variety of other busier events such as Yard Sales, Clothes Swaps and Repair Cafes. We always have a lot going on to get involved with so there should be something to suit everyone.

You don’t have to be able to sew to volunteer with us, but it does help if you share our passion for sustainable fashion!
Description of role: Whether you're into sustainability, fashion, or both we would love your help. As fast fashion giants continue to exploit both people and the environment we aim to get the community involved with practical solutions. The climate crisis isn't going anywhere soon but we know that sustainable fashion done right can be fun, creative and improve wellbeing, so help us take positive steps on a huge green issue.

As a General Stitched Up Volunteer you are free to choose the volunteering shifts that suit you. You don't have to be able to sew to work with us as we have a wide range of activities to help out with, from organising donations to prepping for workshops, events and campaigns. It's a great way to meet other makers and activists from lots of different backgrounds whilst doing something good for the community. As a General Volunteer you will also be invited to volunteer at our events such as our Clothes Swaps, Repair Cafes and other workshops.

These sessions are held at Bridge 5 Mill, 22A Beswick St, Manchester M4 7HR. The venue is currently only accessible by stairs as the lift is currently out of order. The building is seeking funding to replace it and I will update this once it's fixed. Apologies for the inconvenience.

We can offer cash travel reimbursement of up to £5 - just show us your travel receipt on the day.

Once you're signed up I'll get in touch with more information and a link to our volunteer portal. We always have lots of different opportunities and things going on we'll keep you in the loop with :)
